Magic at 'Wolves four-factors analysis

The Minnesota Timberwolves led by as many as 27 points in their 90-75 rout of the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night, which drubbing dropped Orlando to 2-2 on the young season. A glance at the four-factors chart from the game will demonstrate just how disorganized the Magic played on the second night of their first back-to-back set of the season.

Put simply, Orlando shot the ball poorly from the field and struggled to maintain control of it. The Timberwolves were just as sloppy with their miscues, as the teams finished with identical turnover rates, but the host team's hot shooting proved to be the difference. Minnesota's 7-of-20 mark from three-point range was merely average, but it shot an efficient 19-of-35 in the lane to dominate Orlando in paint points, 38-26.

Point guard Luke Ridnour had a brilliant game, scoring 19 points on 6-of-9 from the flor and 4-of-5 from the foul line, keying the Wolves' offensive attack. Reserve center Greg Stiemsma thrived around the basket, shooting 6-of-7 for a season-high 12 points, which figure is just one point shy of his career best.

Second-year forward Derrick Williams, a former second overall Draft choice, chipped in with 14 points in 30 minutes. He did his damage inside and out, with two follow-up slams and two three-pointers, accounting for four of his five baskets on the night.

Three of Orlando's four top offensive players--specifically, I refer to J.J. Redick, E'Twaun Moore, and Glen Davis--struggled to handle the ball, committing at least four turnovers each. Redick shot 5-of-5 from the field in the third quarter for 12 of his 16 points, but that performance wasn't enough to offset his first-half putridity. The seven-year veteran misfired on all six of his shot attempts and committed three of the Magic's 13 turnovers in the opening 24 minutes.
