FC Barcelona Regal has reached an agreement with Mad-Croc Fuenlabrada to purchase Gustavo Ayón's ACB rights, paving the way for the Orlando Magic center to join Barcelona for the 2012/13 season, according to a Google Chrome translation of this report from The Counterattack. Orlando would cut Ayón, whose contract is guaranteed for $1.5 million, according to ShamSports.
In July, Orlando acquired Ayón from the New Orleans Hornets in a sign-and-trade deal built around restricted free-agent power forward Ryan Anderson. As a rookie, Ayón averaged 5.9 points and 4.9 rebounds, showing good energy on both ends of the floor and providing some stability to a woeful Hornets team which ultimately won the NBA Draft lottery and with it the right to select Anthony Davis first overall.
A report Tuesday indicated Ayón is among three players in the running to earn Orlando's starting center job. Should he leave the Magic to return to the Spanish league, Orlando's options at center would be Nikola Vucevic and Kyle O'Quinn.
