Orlando Magic Waive Quentin Richardson, Justin Harper, Chris Johnson

The Orlando Magic have released veteran sharpshooter Quentin Richardson, according to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports. Richardson is a 12th-year pro who played 18 minutes per game for the Magic last season, and was part of the playoff rotation. He was initially thought to be a good fit in Orlando, spotting up on the outside and taking kick-outs from a double teamed Dwight Howard on the interior. Howard and an array of three-point shooters carried Orlando to the Finals in 2010, but that success was never recreated in the two subsequent seasons that Richardson was with the team. With Howard gone, keeping Richardson would have been incongruous with the future plans for a rebuilding franchise under Rob Hennigan.

Richardson is prone to injury and there have been conditioning concerns surrounding him throughout his career, but his use as a veteran spot up shooter might intrigue some teams around the league. As Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel notes, the Magic will owe him $2.6 million this season and $2.8 million next year if he is not picked up off waivers by Monday night.

In addition to Richardson, Orlando also waived Justin Harper and rookie Chris Johnson. Their roster now stands at the league-mandated 15 players.
