Nope.
On Monday, Marcin’s camp hadn’t heard about it and team sources shot it down

Ah, this does make me less sure of it’s viability now.

definetly would ba a bad deal for us

I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?

I still don't understand why everyone hates this deal.

Are you all that in love with Gortat and his 13 minutes per game? We give up Gortat and Peaches but we still have Vince and his expiring deal to work with. I wont go into the numbers here because I wrote it all in a formal post at HowardtheDunk and on my site… but personally, I like the deal.

I just see it as sacrificing our depth for Deng

We would only have Ryan, Bass, and the rookie (Q-Pon?) coming off the bench. We would still need to re-sign JJ, a back-up PG, and Dwight’s back-up.

Though Deng is an improvement over MP/Barnes, I feel our depth might be more important. Or Deng isn’t worth it.

Although I think it's unlikely, I could see this trade happening.

I know you’re worried about depth but look at who we drafted. Unless Orton is trade bait, he will be Gortat’s replacement and with the help of a Hall of Famer and a back-to-back DPOY/future HoFer, he could develop faster than expected as long as he has the desire and is willing to put in the work to get better. Now to Robinson, he could be a high-energy player off the bench for the Magic and someone who can defend the perimeter well. Although he’s not a great outside shooter, Robinson contributes a lot especially on the boards and he attempts many high% shots. The only thing Pietrus does on the offensive end is jack up threes, many of which are ill-advised. Again, I think this trade is very unlikely as the Bulls will only trade Deng if they get LeBron James and I’m not sure that’s happening.

I'm a dude!

Sacrificing too much depth, Luol is a questionable fit, and zero sum mentality means in round 2 or the ECF, Dwight will be contending with Gortat defending him pretty decently, or better, and MP’s defense and super-clutch 3’s. Why would we give Chicago them??
Im not sure I like Luol Deng’s fit with Orlando, if it turns out he fits quite well when the season is underway, I would like the deal in retrospect much more, as the only positive is starting lineup > depth when in the playoffs.

If the Magic lose Pietrus, and Barnes, who would be the Perimeter defender. Deng isn’t really known for being a defensive player is he?

by Hassanali181 on Jun 24, 2025 6:18 PM EDT reply actions

Oops!

Or if the deal were to happen, does this make resigning Barnes a top priority?

Bulls have already made a trade today

They have sent Kirk Hinrich and the Number 17 pick in the draft to the Wizards.

This deal puts the Bulls in even better shape for the upcoming free agency period. They are shedding the $9 million that Hinrich is owed for next season, plus the money they would have had to pay their first round draft pick.

I think it doesnt affect it. Infact, the Bulls have accomplished their cap space goal of having enough money for TWO max players. INFACT, it could increase the chances,

because the Bulls may start looking at basketball fits trades in anticipation of a Wade, Bosh, LBJ player coming in, as long as the deal doesnt affect the salary cap space they have which this proposed Orl-Chi trade doesnt affect, so theoretically, putting a 7ft center like Gortat and a wing player who plays D and hits his open 3’s would be absolutely perfect adds for LBJ, Wade, and even Bosh.

Alex Kennedy:
http://twitter.com/alexkennedynba

“On Monday, Gortat’s camp said they hadn’t heard Chicago rumor. Now they’re not being nearly as forthcoming. “Ask Otis,” is all they’ve said."

Now, Chicago is the only reported interest connecting to Gortat’s name in trade. There are a lot of sensible, rumored trades with Gortat, but nothing with the reported interesting stating Gortat and MP for Deng. So yes, the deal looks alive, and I donno whats going to happen.

Update from Kennedy again:

" I’m hearing that the Chicago-Orlando trade isn’t going down. Stay tuned though. "

Looking like a dead deal again.

That is good news.

I’d rather have a boring night, than that deal go down.
