  • Dwight Howard wins Defensive Player of the Year Award in landslide – Orlando Magic BasketBlog

Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard won his second straight Defensive Player of the Year award today. Via Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel, coach Stan Van Gundy explains the significance of the award.

"I think it’s a well-deserved honor and I think it means just what it says," Van Gundy said after the Magic finished practice Tuesday. "He’s the best defensive player in this league, the most impactful defensive player. I think people see the blocked shots and they see the rebounding, but I don’t think unless you’re a really astute observer that they see the other things he does for us defensively."

Tim Povtak of NBA FanHouse writes that the Magic shouldn't count on Jason Williams re-signing with them this summer. He's had a great year as their backup point guard and spot-starter, and will seek more money.

"I love this place. I love the season we've had, but I really don't want to say that (I'll be back for sure) because if I have a better offer over there, why would I take this here?'' he said after a recent practice. "If this is where I end up, I'd be happy, but you can't say what's going to happen.''

  • The Magic have announced the grand opening of their Playoff Headquarters, located in the Altamonte Mall, downstairs, next to Dillard's. It's open from 10 AM to 9 PM Monday through Saturday and from noon to 6 PM on Sundays, and will operate until the end of the playoffs. Per the release, "the retail store will have a vast selection of 2010 Playoffs and Blue & White Ignite gear, including T-shirts, hats, jerseys and an extensive line of adidas apparel that you can’t find anywhere else."
