Here is a transcript of an interview Gilbert did for ESPN recently. One poignant part:

"I still catch up with some of those guys after every game. Especially [Wizards guard] Nick Young. Because I loved his talents from when he was little. I talk to him after games. He makes jokes about stuff. He was telling me about Rashard Lewis (traded to Washington in deal for Arenas). Nick was like, 'I don't know if he's going to make it two weeks here. He feels like the world just ended.' And I'm like, 'Man, I feel like the world just started for me over here. I can see why he's mad.'"

I'm not sure if Nick Young or Rashard would appreciate this being made public.

With that said, I guess I do like that Gilbert is that open

It gives us an insight to the basketball players we wouldn’t necessarily get through the normal channels.

Proudly mocking the Disciples of Panic (some Magic fans) since October 29, 2010.

I don't think it would take a rocket scientist to figure out this is the reality of the situation anyway.

Everyone knows that players don’t like getting traded from good teams to terrible ones.

Yeah

Imagine going from a title chasing team to the Wizards.

Maybe they can buy him out and we can sign him for the veteran’s minimum {/dreams}

I can't help it

He and Grant Hill will always share a place in the deepest darkest part of my heart.

by Souwantmyname on Dec 29, 2025 5:35 PM EST up reply actions

Really?

It should be people like Shaq that reside in that place.

Hill did everything he could for the team, just had bad luck.

Shard was the 2nd option on a Finals team.

by TragicMatt on Dec 29, 2025 11:17 PM EST up reply actions

God, now that crap is spreading like wildfire

A Finals team that had no Jameer Nelson leading up to the game and an injured Nelson in the Finals. Also where the hell is this promotion coming from? Hedo Turkoglu was the 2nd option on that team during the playoffs. Reshard did what he usually does. Stand in a corner and wait for the ball.

I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?

by Souwantmyname on Dec 30, 2025 11:37 AM EST up reply actions

Okay, "option" aside, he was clearly their 2nd-best player in that particular Finals and or much of that postseason.

But sure, because he played poorly for most of the quarter-season he played here this year, take pleasure in his failings and sadness. That’s totally a reasonable position to take.

Turk was clearly NOT the 2nd option

Turk was the facilitator. Ask Cleveland who the 2nd option was. Trust me they traded for Jamison to combat Rashard. Come on man. I love Turk and glad he is back, but he was the third best player, and you could make an argument for Pietrus. Pietrus was straight nasty in the playoffs.

by Mateo9399 on Dec 30, 2025 3:44 PM EST up reply actions

Rashard was great.

But that’s awful for you to say. You should take that back, otherwise karma will bite our team in the a$$.

Nobody in Orlando wants that now. Come on.

by ayjaykhanna on Dec 29, 2025 1:57 PM EST up reply actions

I would say karma bit Reshard Lewis in the ass

I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?

by Souwantmyname on Dec 29, 2025 5:32 PM EST up reply actions

He never did anything

But sacrifice his own play for the good of the team.

If anything, him getting traded to Washington is definitive proof there’s no such thing as karma.

by eltharion_doa on Dec 30, 2025 2:47 AM EST up reply actions

This is not really private stuff.

Well it is, but this is common sense stuff as well. Rashard loved being here in Orlando. And then all of the sudden to get traded to maybe the worst team in the East? You go from being the second option on a Finals team to Washington. Think about that for a second. Poor guy.

by Mateo9399 on Dec 29, 2025 1:33 PM EST reply actions

Wait? what?

When was he ever the 2nd option for the Magic?

Ok I dont know where you guys are getting this

That year Reshard averaged 17 pts. and 6 rbs. while Turk averaged 16 pts. 5 reb. and 5 assist per game. Aside from the facts Turk was our secondary ball handler and go to 4th quarter player. To say that Reshard Lewis was the 2nd option that year is utterly ridiculous

I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?

by Souwantmyname on Dec 30, 2025 11:50 AM EST up reply actions

You can't argue

With the irrational.

He hates Lewis, for whatever reason. You’ll never change his mind with facts because his hatred isn’t based on facts.

Wow that's awfully douchey of you
That year Reshard averaged 17 pts. and 6 rbs. while Turk averaged 16 pts. 5 reb. and 5 assist per game

Those facts I gave him in the post RIGHT ABOVE his nicely overlooked. Yep I’m just sticking with all this blind hatred. I mean it couldnt be the fact that his FG%, pts, rebounds have all steadily declined since joining the Magic to go along with his non-existent assist, steal and block contributions. Of which I have mentioned on this site previously (repeatedly). But that’s an irrational argument.

Listen eltharion_doa you need to watch that condescending BS. Or at least be REMOTELY correct about it next time

Yeah Mark, those stats didnt help you argument ATALL

It just proves my point that outside of scoring a whopping 2 FG’s more than Hedo that he doesnt provide anything else to the team. Why dont you provide the stats on the guys Reshard was defending? I seem to remember Pau Gasol abusing Lewis in the Finals.

So why don’t

your reply to something that proves you wrong anyways

Lets get real!

I have to sit two kids all week during day then have to work a real job at night to make ends meet. How much money does Shard make playing a game???? Who cares if the comments were made?

by O-Town MagiCane on Dec 29, 2025 2:00 PM EST reply actions

Money can buy you out of everyday troubles but doing sometinhg that you love,

to get that money and then find yourself in a situation which turns the thing that you love into a “job”, in an enviroment that makes that even a “crappy job”, well, that is quite the punishment in my book. All I’m saying is that Rashard isn’t the kind of guy who did this for the contract. He was lucky enough to have that contract because of the circumstances but that doesn’t automaticaly means he deserves to “pay” for it. It is kind of silly to put yourself in a money making comparison to an athlet who gets paid some part of what his sport generates in revenue.

Don't mind my spelling. I'm a Typo Master.

Substitute athlete/employee and sport/company and you have a valid comparison
