A timely three-day break in their schedule has enabled the Orlando Magic to give back to the Central Florida community during the holiday season. Today, power forward Brandon Bass delivered gifts to two area families, while point guard Jameer Nelson took two more families shopping at a Super Target location. It was Bass' second trip to spread holiday cheer this season, as last week he visited some patients at the Florida Hospital for Children to sign autographs, deliver gifts, and spend time with them.
Tomorrow, Chris Duhon will team with Pepsi to take 50 members of the Parramore Boys and Girls Club shopping, with Pepsi furnishing a $100 gift card for each member.
And Friday, the entire team and coaching staff will host 55 families from the New Image Youth Center at a big holiday party at the team's practice facility. The entire team chipped in to provide gifts, and the party will include activities such as arts and crafts, face-painting, and the opportunity to shoot some hoops. More events are on tap for next week.
I applaud the Magic for continuing their commitment to the community, especially during the holiday season.
