Tonight, the Orlando Magic host the New Jersey Nets at Amway Center, using a starting lineup featuring two--count 'em!--former Nets. New Jersey's had an OK start so far, though turnovers have been an issue. And, as John Hollinger wrote for ESPN Insider yesterday, the four free agents it signed for a combined $18 million this offseason have struggled. The brightest spot by far has been rookie big man Derrick Favors, who's averaging darn near a double-double in just 22 minutes per game and shooting 61.5 percent from the field as a 19-year-old with no offensive moves; he's atop the rookie leaderboards in a lot of categories. The Nets' marketing campaign this year is It's All New, which is apt: only four players from last year's team remain. But what hasn't changed is the stars, as Brook Lopez's 22.8 points and 6.5 rebounds, coupled with Devin Harris' 18.8 points and 8.3 assists, fuel the attack.
Tonight marks the Nets' first road game of the season, which is odd, until you consider they spent much of October playing preseason games all over the darn place. If any team earned a protracted homestand to start the season, it's New Jersey.
