|February 8th: Magic 101, Nets 84|
When the Orlando Magic play the New Jersey Nets tonight, it will be their first game after two days off. Tonight is the first of a three-games-in-four-nights set, which is capped with a Sunday/Monday set at Boston and at Detroit. The Magic are a combined 0-4 against those teams this year, which means they could really use a win tonight.
They made fairly quick look of a New Jersey team that was playing without Vince Carter last month, which put the offensive load squarely on Devin Harris' shoulders. Harris is a deserving All-Star, but against a top-5 defense, he can't carry a team. Rookie center/robot 18-wheeler/insightful interviewee Brook Lopez had his moments against Dwight Howard, and that might continue tonight, with the Magic needing to focus on Carter. Not that I expect Lopez to make Dwight look silly or anything.
Anyone else hoping for another strong performance from Rashard Lewis, who carried the Magic to victory Tuesday night? Sweet Lew should have no trouble against Yi Jianlian, and it'd be in the Magic's best interests to go to him on the left block early and often, even if it means taking Howard out of the play. One final thought: good luck against Vince, Courtney.
Tip's at 7. Let's pad that record. Go Magic.
