Third Quarter Collapse is happy to welcome its new users from Yahoo! Sports, which recently entered a partnership with SB Nation. You can find full details of the partnership here, but the gist is that Yahoo! Sports pages will link to relevant blog posts on SB Nation in order to feature more local content. Check out the Orlando Magic's page, for instance. You'll see a box which contains links to this site's latest stories. More features are on the way.
Current readers, please do your best to make the new members of the community feel welcome. We may not see an immediate increase of new users and posters, but we do indeed anticipate such an increase. I'd also like to mention, for the record, that the partnership with Yahoo! will not affect the editorial policies of this site in any way.
With that out of the way, I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome our new readers, and also to go over some site features for everyone's benefit.
FanPosts and FanShots
-
The FanPosts, in the top box on the main page's right sidebar, are the place for you to share your thoughts. Rant and rave to your heart's content, but please keep your words clean and your debates civil. Every so often, the site's Contributing Editor, erivera7, will feature a FanPost on the main page. Note that FanPosts aren't the place to merely drop a link to a cool story/video/photo you've found. That'd be...
-
The FanShots. They're a little further down that right sidebar on the main page. FanShots are your place to share links, quotes, images, videos, lists, and chats.
-
You can recommend individual FanPosts and FanShots by clicking the recommend button, which looks like this:
. Recommended FanPosts and FanShots will be bumped to the top of their respective sections, under the "Recommended" heading.
-
When writing a FanPost or FanShot, make sure to tag the players, teams, and games you've mentioned. The tagging system is fairly self-explanatory, and will help keep the site well-indexed.
GameThreads and Comments
-
Every game day, I'll post a GameThread which will serve as a place for everyone to leave comments before and during a game...
-
... which is really cool because all comments will appear as they're posted; that is, you won't have to refresh your browser window every few minutes to see what everyone else is saying. The auto-refresh feature applies to all posts, not just GameThreads. There are some keyboard shortcuts which allow you to tab through comments, mark them as read, etc. Those shortcuts are listed at the top of every comments section.
-
You can recommend individual comments by clicking the "actions" button attached to that comments, then clicking the
button which becomes visible. A comment with 5 recommends will be highlighted.
-
The actions button also allows you to flag comments you find offensive. I am able to monitor such comments and delete them if necessary.
Other Parts of the Site
I maintain a few special pages on this site. A complete list of these pages can be found in the "About 3QC" in the right sidebar of the main page. Some of my favorites are:
-
The 2008/2009 Orlando Magic depth chart, which is updated after each game to reflect the current rotation.
-
The All-Time Orlando Magic Roster, which is updated whenever new players come aboard. It's sorted by uniform number.
-
The Quotes From Coach archive. Stan Van Gundy is one of the league's best sound-bite sources, as you'll see when you read the archive. You can find the most recent featured quote on the left bar of the main page.
-
We also have our own Twitter page. Follow us @3QCMagic for some in-game update and the occasional random musing.
That's about it. Again, please welcome the new members of the community.
