UPDATE: here's my take on Magic coach Stan Van Gundy's pre-game media session.
The Orlando Magic will try to rebound from a tough loss to the Boston Celtics on Christmas Day when they host the struggling Milwaukee Bucks at Amway Arena tonight. Milwaukee, which got off to a surprising 8-3 start without Olympian shooting guard Michael Redd, has dropped 14 of its last 18 games, including a 94-84 defeat in Charlotte on Monday in which coach Scott Skiles sat Redd and Andrew Bogut, the team's franchise center, for the entire second half. Not all is well with the Bucks, although rookie point guard Brandon Jennings has had a stellar season, with per-game averages of 19.5 points and 6.1 assists on 50.4% True Shooting. Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said the Bucks' problems have been a bit overstated, as "they've had some tough [losses], too" and "they're not playing badly at all, they just haven't been able to get wins." Van Gundy is never one to take an opponent lightly, which was readily apparent tonight when he met with the media 90 minutes before tipoff.
Magic point guard Jameer Nelson will get his first-ever crack at defending Jennings tonight, which Josh Robbins wrote more about here.
The Magic's last game of the decade, and last leg of their 5-game homestand, tips at 7. I'm once again at The Am to cover the whole thing. Good times, I hope.
