In their final preseason tune-up, the Orlando Magic take on the Atlanta Hawks in an oddly compelling matchup. Orlando has the league's best preseason record at 7-0, but Atlanta is third (behind the L.A. Lakers) with its 5-1 showing. The Hawks are succeeding in large part to their stingy defense, which is allowing an effective field goal percentage of 47.6%, which is darn near elite. Shooting percentages in the preseason are largely irrelevant, but hey, the Hawks are playing D. Nice.
Now here's a fun game: guess who leads the Hawks in preseason scoring. No cheating. If you guessed former Magic swingman Mo Evans, you're right. Mo's scoring 15.7 points per game on a truly off-the-charts 97.5% eFG%. Shooting 7-of-8 on three-pointers can do that to one's eFG%. Yikes.
The game tips at 8 on ESPN, which is fortuitous, as it's the first preseason game to air in Orlando's local market. Eddy's at the game, so keep an eye out for his reports.
See you at tip.
