Magic point guard Rafer Alston, subbing for injured starter Jameer Nelson since a February trade, would like nothing more than to sign an extension with the Magic. Alston told the Sentinel on Thursday that he wants to remain with the organization after his contract expires next season.

Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel has the scoop.

Make Shots

M. Haubs of The Painted Area points out that the difference between the Orlando Magic & the Cleveland Cavaliers is simple - one team is making shots. -- UPDATE: Kevin Pelton of Basketball Prospectus notes that the Magic have used the pick & roll with Dwight Howard successfully against the Cavaliers. If you remember, this was something I (and my colleague, Ben) were clamoring to see more of since the Celtics series. Better late than never, right?

The crucial difference between 2009 and the last few years? This spring featured the most talented group of playoff performers we've seen in 16 years, as well as two truly quirky teams coming into their own (Denver and Orlando). That makes it more personal for us. The league should be in great shape. We want it to work. All the pieces are in place. It's like going over to a friend's beautiful new house, walking in and being appalled by the shoddy wallpaper, ugly furniture and disgusting wooden floors.

Everything we thought we knew --- Orlando is too perimeter oriented, Denver too undisciplined --- is tossed out the window. It goes against everything we've been conditioned to believe -- that championship teams have to ripen on the vine, have to suffer before they thrive, have to climb the ladder one rung at a time. Because that's how Michael's Bulls, Isiah's Pistons, Hakeem Olajuwon's Rockets and The Admiral's Spurs did it.

NBA.com suggesting that perhaps the Magic haven't suffered enough to be where they are......Wait, what?!

Matchup Problems

Bradford Doolittle of Basketball Prospectus takes a closer look at why the Orlando Magic have caused the Cleveland Cavaliers so much trouble in the Eastern Conference Finals. Worth the read, given the statistics being analyzed.

Dwight Howard = Happy Gilmore

...after Happy learned how to putt. Free throws were the only thing holding Dwight back. Now that he can hit them, he has become unstoppable. He has no Achilles heel when those foul shots go in. Does this make him the most unstoppable player in the league?

Actually, I don't care if he saves a thousand children from a burning fire. I just don't care to welcome Hedo Turkoglu into my home." In contrast to the nation's utter indifference toward Turkoglu, a TNT poll indicated that if given the choice, most viewers would still prefer to smack J.J. Redick right in the face.

The Onion speculating on Hedo Turkoglu's value vs JJ Redick's.
