"No disrespect to Hedo, but he's not consistent enough for the kind of money I expect he'll demand ($11M per; four years)," an east coast executive declared. "He wants the ball with the game on the line and responds real well under pressure, but then he'll disappear for a game or two. That's all that's stopping him from becoming a perennial All-Star."

Peter Vescey of the New York Post gathers one Eastern Conference executive's thoughts on Magic free-agent-to-be Hedo Turkoglu. Note the contract terms Turk reportedly wants: $44 million over 4 years.

Revisiting the 2006 NBA Draft -- NBA FanHouse

1

The latest bit of revisionist draft fun from FanHouse's Gary Washburn focuses on the 2006 draft, in which the Orlando Magic took J.J. Redick with the 11th pick. This time around, they wind up with another sharpshooter, but not J.J.

Take the Magic's insistence that they will pay luxury tax to keep [Hedo] Turkoglu with a grain of salt, one exec urged. "All that means is there's no way they're going to be able to keep him," he said.

An NBA executive tells Ken Berger of CBS Sports that the Magic are bluffing when they say they'll pay the luxury tax to re-sign Hedo Turkoglu.

I've also heard San Antonio is quite interested in Marcin "Polish Hammer" Gortat, so perhaps he'll be lining up alongside Tim Duncan next season.

Andrew Kamenetzky of the L.A. Times reports the San Antonio Spurs are among the teams interested in the services of Magic center Marcin Gortat, a restricted free agent.

[Anthony] Johnson told a local Charleston ABC television affiliate in South Carolina on Monday that he would opt-in next year.

Kyle Hightower of the Orlando Sentinel reports that Anthony Johnson will stay with the Orlando Magic this season, despite not being happy about being benched in the NBA Finals.

Revisiting the 2005 NBA Draft -- NBA FanHouse

Gary Washburn continues his "Revisiting the Draft" series and makes what I estimate will be a very popular pick on the Orlando Magic's draft in this do-over.

Dwight Howard has expressed an interest in becoming a movie star, but it appears the New York Post jumped the gun with a report this weekend that said the Magic big man was set to begin shooting a film in August. [...] Mary Ford, who works with Howard's agent, said Howard is in talks with different studios about the movie, but nothing has been determined, including filming dates and potential co-stars. She called most of the information in the report "inaccurate."

Revisiting the 2004 NBA Draft

1

FanHouse's Gary Washburn looks back at the 2004 NBA Draft and concludes, rather easily, that the Orlando Magic made the right choice when they selected Dwight Howard first overall. Note, however, where Washburn says Magic point guard Jameer Nelson--originally selected by the Nuggets at 20, then shipped to Orlando for a future first-rounder--would have ended up if the draft were re-done today.
