Dwight Howard wants Magic fans to "move forward"

Dwight Howard - USA TODAY Sports

Howard is set to play the Magic on Tuesday, and though he knows Orlando won't receive him warmly, he wants Magic fans to "move forward."

Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard is gearing up for his first game at Amway Center since the Orlando Magic, its chief tenant, traded him in August. Howard is the team's leader in points, rebounds, and blocked shots and he led the team to an NBA Finals appearance and another Eastern Conference Finals run, but he soon soured on the organization and asked for a trade.

"I love that city," Howard said of Orlando on Friday night, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN Los Angeles. "I had eight great years there. We accomplished a lot, but that's over with. It's in the past. We all have to move forward. I know people are getting upset, but we all have to move forward."

That Howard would take this tactic--urging fans to think about the happier past or look forward to the future--makes sense; his comments say nothing about the present and the immediate future, where he'll have to endure loud, probably obscene, vitriol from a fanbase that once cheered him.

"I have no choice to be ready," Howard said, for whatever awaits him in Orlando on Tuesday.
