I had basically one scenario lineup in mind for the Magic this season, and I thought it was definite. However, thinking it over, it really doesn't make a lot of sense on realistic terms. So, here's my revised lineup for the Magic.
SG: Evan Fournier/ Roy Deyvn-Marble/ Ben Gordon
PF: Tobias Harris/ Kyle O'Quinn/ (FA... like Marvin Willians)
C: Nik Vucevic/ Andrew Nicholson/ DeWayne Dedmon
Well, let's start off with Victor Oladipo. I feel he's now more experienced in the point guard position, and considering he's played a full NBA season and Payton hasn't, he'll be our starting point guard for quite some time. Payton has loads of potential, but he's sloppy taking the ball down the court and his offense is weak. Obviously that can improve, but right now I'm more comfortable with Oladipo being our PG, than Payton. And I think Jaqcue Vaughn would agree. This is not to say VO won't play shootig guard either, of course he will. I just see him being a point guard more often.
Next, I feel offensively and defensively Aaron Gordon will be a better small forward than power forward. Josh Robbins during the first Summer League game tweeted,
"Right now, it's apparent that Aaron Gordon is more comfortable on offense as a 3 than as a 4."
I have to agree. He's a little too small to be bumping around in the post, and would have a harder time defending 4's. Could you imagine Gordon trying to stop a PF like LaMarcus Aldridge? Not me. But he can defend someone like Jeff Green well. I think Tobias Harris could handle the PF spot better with him being slightly larger.
Another thing that may catch your attention is Andrew Nicholson being a center. See, last season he was buried under the PF spot. He didn't have much playing time, and frankly couldn't defend well against PF's. That's why I think he'll be a better center. He can draw out his defender considering he can shoot 3's and long ranger jumpers. And he would give us the immediate offense that Dedmon couldn't give us, once Vucevic is sitting down. At first, I didn't think he should stay in Orlando, but now I think he could still fit.
Overall, I think this lineup can work. It'd give us the perfect balance of defense and offense. By the way, I strongly advise the Magic to pick up Seth Curry. He'd be a great PG for us. Osby is a good, versatile player too, but I don't think he fits with Orlando.
