Don't Overlook Evan Fournier

Out of all the players we've signed this offseason, I think Evan Fournier was the one player who has been talked about the least. And that's not a great thing. I, at first, did not think much of him when he first came to Orlando. Trading Arron Afflalo, for a mere role player didn't seem that enticing. However, looking at some stats and realizing just how young he is, I think Rob Hennigan struck oil once again with a young player.

Fournier last season averaged nearly 9 points, 1.5 assists and nearly 3 rebounds a game. Not impressive, I know. Although, considering he was a bench player fighting minutes with Randy Foye, Wilson Chandler, and Nate Robinson, it wasn't easy for him to get some court time. After awhile, a lot of injuries did happen for the Nuggets, and that's when Fournier got to shine. Even though he wad inconsistent with his games, he did have very impressive ones. On 4/12/14, Fournier had 23 points against the Utah Jazz. He was 7 of 16 from the field.

On 2/23/14 against the Kings, he dropped 27 points with 8 of 11 from the field. He also had 5 assists. On 3/1/14, he played the Trailblazers and had 16 points and 7 boards. My point? There are games where he doesn't shoot at all much and doesn't grab boards or passes, but there were more games where he impressed the crowd and his team. He's only 21, so it's not like his prime is anywhere near.

I feel the Nuggets didn't give him a great role early on, only until his teammates were getting injured and he had to play more minutes. For us, he can be a great backup shooting guard, and maybe even be a starter if Victor Oladipo plays at the 1 most of the time.

With Fournier's sharp shooting, ball handling, and size (6 ft 7)... he'll be a great addition for us. He'll also fill the need for Arron Afflalo's departure from the trade. I like the young nucleus we have now, and it's even better now that we have a Marco Bellini type of player in Evan Fournier. He's ready to shine in Orlando.
