Gordon Hayward, the baller from Salt Lake City, has recently been offered a max contract by the Charlotte Hornets. 4 years and 63 million guaranteed are the agreed upon terms, eye popping to say the least. What do the Hornets see in this dude? After checking out a few mixed tapes, i think i get it. Hayward has an arsenal that includes a step back jumper, a nifty floater, and the ability to stretch the opposition from downtown. With a career 3 point percentage of nearly 37%, this after a down year being the primary scoring option on a shitty Jazz team, Hayward could instantly provide the 3 ball shooting 3 that we desperately need. Defensively, Hayward averaged a respectable 1.4 steals per game, higher than the likes of renown perimeter defender Josh Smith, putting to rest the stereotype that white players are a liability on the defensive side. With career averages elevating yearly, he now stands at 16, 5, and 5 in the stat sheet, this at only 24.
Now, with regards to Orlando, I think Hayward fills a void that could exponentially help the Magic. With thrashers across the board, Oladipo and now Elfrid, we have a void at the 3 that will surely be exploited this season. Lanes to hoop will be seldom found, as defenses will surely collapse the paint and dare us to beat them with the 3. In the hypothetical situation that the Magic were to acquire Hayward, imagine the lanes that would open. Hayward just seems to be the answer to a question that we have in Orlando, as having a 3 point shooter/ shot creator at the Small Forward position would allow both Elfrid and Dipo to use their skill sets in an effective manner, and consequently allow their games to blossom.
Now the argument against, 4 years 63 million.
