Elfrid Payton To Recieve A Post Combine Bump?

Elfrid Payton is an under the radar point guard prospect every Orlando Magic fan should be aware of, standing 6'4" with a 6'7" wingspan he is an intriguing mix of size, speed and athleticism. During the 2013-14 season he averaged 19 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assist and 2 steals a game. He had a fantastic junior campaign, the culmination of which was Payton winning the Lefty Driesell award for defensive player of the year. Having just turned 20 years old, he is oozing with upside and potential!

The NBA combine is this week and I'm expecting a lot of buzz in regards to Elfrid Payton. Every year the combine has a knack for generating buzz for prospects who perform well during the interview, workout drill and measurement process. This year I suspect Payton will be a beneficiary of a post combine bump up draft boards. Recently I have seen him mocked anywhere from pick 16-30. While I assume that most Magic fans would rule him out of consideration for the wonk pick, I'm thinking after the combine it might not be such an egregious proposition. Below I'll link his DraftExpress scouting video highlighting his strengths and weaknesses. I will be the first to admit he is far from a finished and polished prospect, I would remind everyone that the perfect prospect does not exist. Every player has chinks in their armor and Payton is no exception to that rule. The most important things when evaluating NBA prospects is the ability to have an understanding of a players current skill set, character, athletic tools, basketball IQ, and overall potential ceiling. Having studied Elfrid Payton for some time, it has lead me to believe that outside of Dante Exum, he is the most attractive point guard prospect in this draft!
