A Research Proposal

Ladies and Gentlemen, spring break is upon us. I've got a research paper to write for my humanities class (topic: the trans-atlantic slave trade), but I'll have enough free time to do some semi-serious basketball work this week too. My proposal is as follows.

I want to poll the SB Nation sites for the teams with the 8 worst records in the NBA on what each fan feels the top 8 big board for their team should look like.

After compiling the results, I will assign point values to each potential draft pick in reverse order (a number 1 spot on the big board will be worth 8 points, a 2 spot will be worth 7, etc...), and extrapolate a value for each player.

Listing the players in order of their scores, I will use the composite big board from each team's site, and their current NBA records to do a mock draft. I will publish the list of big boards, including the players scores, and the results of the mock draft for each team's fans to use in their evaluation of how the overall view of the draft is shaking out in the lower tier of the NBA.

Assuming this meets with decent reviews, I'd be happy to repeat the exercise closer to the draft, perhaps after the lottery.

As an aid to this exercise, I intend to attach a primer on the top 12 to 16 current college and international players, (probably a paragraph each) for fans to consider as they make their big boards. For this, I'll largely be drawing on (and citing) pieces already written on each of the players.

I'll be composing most of this tonight, as I wait for full membership on most of these sites. I'll probably post the poll here, as soon as I'm done with the primer, sometime tonight.

Any input into which players you want included on the primer would be greatly appreciated, but understand, this is time sensitive, in that, I'm producing it in the next few hours. It's 4 pm eastern time on Friday, and I'm starting now.

Thanks,

CW2.Pieper
