Like most Magic fans these days I'm a little obsessed with the WoNK pick.
it's an unhealthy addiction. I find myself rooting for teams like the heat and the lakers.
I think it's fair to assume that nobody had both Denver and New York missing the playoffs. for the sake of this fanpost I will assume that New York misses the playoffs. Hollingers playoff odds for the knicks is currently at %4. and i think %4 is a little generous after they let the 2014 LA lakers hang 51 pts in 12 minutes against them.
when both Denver and NY miss the playoffs the precious wonk pick will be placed into a pool of 14 lottery teams. Denver will not catch Minnesota to move up any farther than the 12th worst team in the league.
this means The WoNK pick will be at least be #12. but wait! it gets better.....
the Pelicans are flocking! they are hot and have won 7 of their last 10 games. anthony davis might be the 3rd best player in the NBA right now. and the nuggets have a very tough schedule ahead. they are only half a game up on new orleans. Here is the breakdown of their remaining schedules.
New Orleans Pelicans
games that can go either way// Nuggets. trailblazers. suns.
So they will win anywhere from 4-6 games
games they should lose// golden state twice. Rockets twice. Spurs twice. Clippers.
games they should win// Utah.....
games that can go either way// Memphis twice and New Orleans.
they can win anywhere from 2-3 games.
Magic fans need to mark their calendars for Wednesday April 2nd Pelicans @ Nuggets. aka the wonk superbowl. that game will go a long way in deciding where the WoNK falls.
doesn't seem like a big jump but it could mean the difference in us getting the prospect we want. with a handful of players falling around the tenth pick moving up one spot can make all the difference.
Do you guys think the Pelicans can do it?
what player would you take that was previously thought to be unattainable at the wonk pick?
