My favorite time of the year is finally here, the NCAA College Basketball Tournament. I expect Orlando Magic fans to pay extra attention to the NCAA Tournament this year considering the team owns (most likely) two lottery picks in a loaded draft. Since there hasn't been an article, I thought I would create a FanPost where Magic fans could post a scouting report, observations, or comments about players in 2nd round games (Today and Tomorrow).
Here are some players that I will be keeping an eye on (w/ Class and draft projection from various draft websites):
Early games (Noon-4:45)
PG Aaron Craft, Ohio St. (Sr., Projected: Undrafted/2nd Rd) - Love his defensive prowess and intensity. Very limited on offense. Has a huge heart. Most likely an un-drafted guy who will have to win over a team in the Summer League/camp.
SG/SF Lamar Patterson, Pitt. (Sr., Projected: Undrafted/2nd Rd) - Hard-nosed defender, gritty. Respectable outside shot. Could get a look from a team in the 2nd rd.
SG Sean Kilpatrick, Cincinnati (Sr., Projected 2nd Rd.) - Prolific shooter, scorer. Doesn't have a great reputation for playing defense. Will make an NBA roster as a 4th or 5th guard at the end of the bench.
PG Tyler Ennis, Syracuse (Fr., Projected Lottery PIck)
SF Jerami Grant, Syracuse (So., Projected Lottery PIck/Mid 1st)
SF CJ Fair, Syracuse (Sr., Projected Late 1st/Early 2nd)
Syracuse trio should have no trouble with Western Michigan. Should be fun to track Tyler Ennis throughout the tournament. He's become a favorite on this site. The Orange received a great draw playing in Buffalo, NY.
PF/C Patrick Young, Florida (Sr., Projected 2nd. Rd./Undrafted)
Senior is the heart and soul of the #1 team in the country. Was once considered a potential lottery pick. Very strong. Will have to work his way onto a team as a role player.
SG Gary Harris (So., Projected Lottery Pick)
PF/C Adrian Payne (Sr., Projected Late 1st Rd.)
PG Keith Appling (Sr., 2nd Rd./Undrafted)
The Spartans are the favorites of a lot of so called experts in the industry to cut down the nets. Very experienced team. Harris can flat out shoot. Payne has nice touch and range for a big, fits an ideal stretch 4 mold in the NBA. Appling is playing through a wrist injury. When healthy, this team is dynamite. All three of these prospects are very unselfish.
Please feel free to comment on any other players from the 2nd round that standout or would seem to be a good fit on the Magic!
