To start with, I know that these trade ideas are VERY unlikely. At the same time they are quite reasonable and possible. As we all know, the Magic are looking to build the teams primary core through drafting players. This is the same process that OKC took, however due to the immense talent in the 2014 Draft Class I believe that the Magic could take much less time to rebuild. The 2014 Draft is projected to be one of the most talented draft pools of this era. Say what you want about how the players are all hype, this draft class will have many stars and key roles players come out of it. The two main targets I believe management needs to be focused on is current Duke star, Jabari Parker, and the 18 year old Australian Dante Exum. The question is, how could the Magic possibly get 2 top lottery picks? Well, here you have it.
ORL Receives: Denver's 2014 1st Round Draft Pick
DEN Receives: ORL 2014 WoNK Pick and Arron Afflalo
The reason why this trade works is because it fill the voids of both teams very efficiently. There is no doubt that the Nuggets are not looking to tank, seeing as they still have a very strong core of young talent currently on their team. At the moment they do not really possess a true SG. There is no doubt that Arron Afflalo has proven to be a top tier SG, and in addition the Nuggets will be receiving another possible lottery pick in a loaded draft class. As for the Magic, we have a very strong, young core of players in Oladipo, Vucevic, and Tobias Harris. The starting roster would be rounded out well with the possible additions of Dante Exum as well as Jabari Parker. The Magic need to make a very big move if we want to be in contention anytime soon, or we will risk continually tanking for the foreseeable years ahead.
Some questions that seem to be arising recently is as to whether or not the Magic should select Jabari Parker or Andrew Wiggins. In my personal opinion, if you have watched both of these guys play several times, without a doubt Parker is the by far the better of the two. He is better at every aspect of the game except for pure athleticism. This is why I believe that it is imperative that the Magic are very wise with their with their current top pick.
I hope that this create some excitement about the upcoming draft, and also generates more discussion as to how the Magic should utilize their current assets to full potential.
