NBA free agency 2013: Magic waive Al Harrington

Al Harrington - USA TODAY Sports

The team announced Thursday that it has waived the 15-year veteran.

The Orlando Magic have placed veteran big man Al Harrington on waivers, the team announced Thursday. Harrington, acquired in August 2012 from the Denver Nuggets, appeared in 10 games for the Magic in the 2012/13 season, averaging 5.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, and one assist per game before Orlando benched him in order to give more playing time to the younger players on its roster.

Harrington has two years and $14.7 million remaining on his contract, according to ShamSports, but only half of his salary in each season is guaranteed. The Magic's salary-cap hit on Harrington, then, is only for the guaranteed amount.

In a recent interview with USA Today, Harrington spoke about his experience with the Magic and how it had made him wary of the NBA's "business side."

"It's not what you can do anymore. It's what you can do at that price," Harrington told Sam Amick. "And everybody wants a deal, you know what I mean?"

Waiving Harrington brings Orlando's roster down to 14 players, not counting second-round Draft choice Romero Osby, who remains unsigned.
