NBA Summer League 2013: Celtics announce Orlando Pro Summer League roster

Kelly Olynyk - USA TODAY Sports

Three recent Draft picks and a slew of free agents comprise Boston's roster.

The Boston Celtics announced Friday their roster for the 2013 Orlando Pro Summer League, which runs from July 7th through July 12th at the Orlando Magic's practice court in Amway Center. The event is closed to the public.

Given that Boston is about to trade to the Brooklyn Nets future Hall-of-Famers Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, Summer League will be an especially important way for the Celtics to identify cheap, young talents with whom to surround the core of Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley, and Jeff Green.

41 Kelly Olynyk C 7-00 238 Gonzaga
26 Phil Pressey PG 5-11 175 Missouri
Omar Reed SG 6-07 209 Maine Red Claws (NBA D-League)
12 Nolan Smith PG 6-02 185 Portland Trail Blazers

A trio of young big men highlights the Celtics' roster. 2012 first-round Draft choice Fab Melo joins 2013 selections Kelly Olynyk and Colton Iverson to give Summer League coach Jay Larranaga some great options up front. Tony Mitchell, a former NBA D-League MVP, could get a shot at a training-camp invitation, given Pierce's imminent departure.

Phil Pressey's presence on the team is intriguing. The undrafted point guard out of Missouri led his conference in assists average in both his sophomore and junior seasons.

Also of note is Nolan Smith, a former first-round Draft pick of the Portland Trail Blazers. Smith averaged 20.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists in his senior season at Duke, but faltered in the NBA, shooting just 37.1 percent from the floor in his two seasons with Portland.
