Draft 2013 if magicfaninTN is the GM

I recognize that I cannot make all these deals happen. I think they are reasonable for both teams. That's as much as I can do in an exercise like this.

1. Trade Glen Davis to the Pacers for #23 + Gerald Green.

2. Draft Otto Porter at #2.

3. Trade Harkless & #23 to Pelicans for #6, or Kings for #7, or Detroit for #8.

4. Draft Kentavious Caldwell-Pope with that pick.

5. Offer Minnesota the "Bledsoe deal" for #9 + some salary: Afflalo+Nicholson+Vasquez rights+Moore? for #9+Ridnour+Stiemsma (likely waived)

6. Offer Brooklyn: Harrington+Ridnour+Moore? for Shengelia+Humphries

7. Try to trade down from #9.

Except, if #23 doesn't have to be given with Harkless to get the #6, 7, or 8, and Trey Burke is on the board at #9, then I'd take Burke rather than trade down. Then use the #23 on Erick Green.

I might consider McCollum, too, if he's on the board. I really like him, but with only a layman's set of info, I'm not sure yet about his transition to the PG. Hard to say.

8. But, if Burke is off the board (and I'm assuming he is), I am trying to trade down the #9 to a team with multiple lower picks. Trade #9 down to:

  • OKC for #12 & #29 - try to move down again with #12
  • ATL for #17 + #18
  • UTA for #14 + #21
  • CLE for #19 + #31 + #33
  • Just to pick one, I went with Atlanta.
  • Unsure if Schroeder is available this year. But if he is I take him as the next pick. (Maybe Dallas keeps #13 and stashes him; unless someone takes Marion off their hands. Schroeder's contract in Germany runs through 2014.) Orlando could take him and stash him, but I'd rather he be developing with Orlando coaches than on his European team. But it is an option to have him work with our people and play out his German league contract before coming over.
  • After Schroeder, my next choice is Erick Green (based mostly off of SBNation's Mike Prada's assessment, which pushed me over the line to feel like he has enough passing skill). Then Larkin (great P&R and speed, but size concerns). Then Wolters (great PG skills and size, but speed concerns).
  • Of course, I would try to keep trading down to get the players I want while adding future assets along the way if possible. Too difficult to project those details here.

9. Sign Elton Brand to 1 year $3-4M deal. All these moves made the team very young. Brand is the right kind of veteran. He may want to chase a ring with another team. If so, keep the roster spot open and add NBA vets as assistant coach(es).

10. Humphries can be bought out if the roster spot is needed.

11. Resign DeQuan Jones at vet minimum. Just an added measure of continuity from last year. He was exposed to Redick, Davis, Afflalo, etc. and could be a good influence on the new guys. He, like Lamb or Humphries, can be waived later if we need the roster spot.

12. Still need to pick a player with #51 is it hasn't been traded as part of one of the deals above. Lots of options here. If any of Muscala, Ledo, Wolters, or Joffrey Lauvergne are on the board, I'd pick them. Doubt the first three drop this far.

13. Possible camp invites or Summer League invites: Kenny Kadji, Zeke Marshall

Roster:

Jameer Nelson / Dennis Schroeder or Shane Larkin / Erick Green
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope / Doron Lamb / Gerald Green
Otto Porter / Tornike Shengelia / DeQuan Jones
Tobias Harris / Elton Brand? / Kris Humphries
Nikola Vucevic / Kyle O'Quinn / #51?

Not counting Arenas, but with Brand at $3M, & Jones at $1M, : $52 million (rounded up, just barely)

Alternate roster, with Burke:

Jameer Nelson / Trey Burke [or McCollum] / Erick Green
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope / Doron Lamb / Gerald Green
Otto Porter / Tornike Shengelia / DeQuan Jones
Tobias Harris / Elton Brand? / Kris Humphries
Nikola Vucevic / Kyle O'Quinn / #51?
