13th Pick in Play?

I see on ESPN that there are reports out of Dallas that the Mavs are interested in trading their 13th pick in the draft to get rid of the $1.6m cap hold that it carries and so they can make a run at the guy who was named all NBA 3rd Team Centre.

I'm interested to get peoples views on the following:

  • Is this pick worth going after? (in your opinion)
  • Do we have the assets to acquire it?
  • What would it take to acquire the 13th pick? (which assets?)
  • Who would you take with that pick?
Also I read somewhere that because Dallas already traded their 2014 #1 draft pick in the Lamar Odom trade, they would therefore need to draft the player this year and then make a trade. How does this work in practice? Do the teams pre-agree before the draft to a trade and the buyer (Magic) just lets the seller (Mavs) know who they want? Or does a buyer (Magic) call the seller (Mavs) when they are on the clock for the 13th pick and say "hey if you pick x for me, ill give you y"?
