Rumor: Marcus Smart may enter 2013 NBA Draft

Marcus Smart - USA TODAY Sports

The freshman guard initially said he would return to Oklahoma State for another season, but he may be having second thoughts, a report says.

On April 17th, Oklahoma State Cowboys guard Marcus Smart officially announced his decision to return to school for a sophomore campaign. "I've been bashed and criticized that I probably made a mistake of coming back here, the NBA will be there, I should have took it, and this year's draft class is much weaker than next year's," Smart said then, according to the Associated Press. "But I think I made the right decision."

But Friday, NBADraft.net posted a rumor via Twitter, saying "Smart is having second thoughts" about his decision to return to Stillwater, and that he could enter the 2013 NBA Draft after all.

Smart potentially entering his name into the Draft pool certainly has implications for the rebuilding Orlando Magic, who will pick no worse than fourth overall in June and have a clear need for depth and talent in the backcourt. When word of Smart's pulling out of the Draft began circulating, ESPN's Chad Ford reported that Orlando would have considered selecting him with the first overall pick.

As a freshman, Smart earned Big 12 Player of the Year honors while averaging 15.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and three steals per game. Magic fans have long admired his size, scoring ability, and intensity.
