Magic coach Jacque Vaughn ejected against Pacers

Jacque Vaughn - USA TODAY Sports

Orlando's head coach picked up two technical fouls for arguing with referee Eric Dalen in the third quarter on Tuesday.

Jacque Vaughn is known around the league for having a mild temper. The first-year Orlando Magic head coach has earned the nickname the Prince of Positivity for his demeanor and even-tempered approach to the game.

So it came as a surprise when Vaughn picked up two technical fouls in the third quarter of Tuesday's game against the Indiana Pacers, prompting an ejection. The technicals are the first two of Vaughn's coaching career, as he went the season's first 67 games without picking up any; according to John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com, Vaughn only had two technicals in his 12-year playing career.

What set Vaughn off was a double-technical called on Magic center Kyle O'Quinn and Pacers center Roy Hibbert. Hibbert had O'Quinn in a bear hug as they jostled for position on a free-throw rebound, and referee Eric Dalen whistled the pair for offsetting technicals. Vaughn took issue with Dalen's assessment of the play, which occurred in front of Orlando's bench, and argued with the referee. Dalen ejected Vaughn after the Magic's coach had a few words with him.

James Borrego, Vaughn's lead assistant, assumed Orlando's head-coaching duties upon Vaughn's dismissal.
