NBA trade deadline helped Tobias Harris, analyst says

Tobias Harris - USA TODAY Sports

Orlando's acquisition of the 20-year-old forward freed him to make an impact, according to one analyst.

No one player benefitted more from the 2013 NBA trade deadline than Tobias Harris, whom the Orlando Magic acquired from the Milwaukee Bucks that day, says ESPN Insider analyst Bradford Doolittle in Thursday's edition of his weekly Big Man Barometer column. The reason for his emergence, Doolittle says, has to do with the role Orlando has given him: the Bucks "consigned" Harris to small forward, whereas Orlando has played him at both forward spots.

And Harris, as Doolittle points out, has delivered, giving the Magic a solid combination of three-point shooting (41.4 percent) and rebounding (8.9 boards per 36 minutes), which attributes are desirable in floor-spacing power forwards.

Doolittle's praise for Harris is effusive. "Harris is the kind of versatile, positionless performer who every team needs in today's game," Doolittle says. "And as a still-raw player with loads of upside, he's just the kind of guy Orlando needs to be hording at this stage of its rebuilding project."

Overall, Harris has played 10 games for Orlando, making three starts. He's averaging 15.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 2.1 combined blocks and steals per game on 50.4 percent shooting.
