Magic trades: Doron Lamb a young piece for Orlando's future

Doron Lamb - USA TODAY Sports

The undersized two-guard hasn't had much success as a rookie.

The Orlando Magic traded J.J. Redick, Ish Smith and Gustavo Ayon to the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday, acquiring Tobias Harris, Doron Lamb, and Beno Udrih in return. Orlando Pinstriped Post assesses each player the Magic obtained.

The Bucks selected Lamb, 21, with the 42nd overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. Lamb played two seasons for Kentucky, during which he averaged 13.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 29.8 minutes. Lamb's stock in trade is his shooting: 43.7 percent of his shots were three-pointers, and he converted a blistering 47.5 percent of them.

At the NBA level, success has eluded Lamb. He's shooting just 34.7 percent from the floor and 25 percent from three-point range, albeit in limited minutes. The Queens, New York native has played just 12.2 minutes per game in 23 appearances and hasn't played since January 5th. His best game was November 26th against the Chicago Bulls. That night, he shot 3-of-3 from the field for a career-best eight points in 15 minutes.

Lamb, just 6-foot-4, has also struggled to finish at the NBA level. He's shot just 16-of-34 in the restricted area, according to NBA.com, a conversion rate of 47.1 percent.

So Lamb has plenty of room to grow as an NBA player. Orlando will be able to get a cheap look at him for the balance of 2012/13 and the entire 2013/14 season, as he's owed less than $1 million in each season.
