Rising Stars four-factors analysis

Kyrie Irving - USA TODAY Sports

Because only Orlando Pinstriped Post is deranged enough to calculate efficiencies for a meaningless exhibition.

Team Chuck rode a 40-point, 10-rebound performance from Denver Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried toa 163-135 win over Team Shaq in the Rising Stars Challenge at NBA All-Star Weekend on Friday night. Faried shot 18-of-22 from the floor, with 10 dunks, to earn MVP honors in a game in which his team never trailed.

Team Chuck earned the victory despite yielding 32 points to Kyrie Irving, the Cleveland Cavaliers point guard and the MVP of the 2012 edition of the exhibition.

Team Pace Efficiency eFG% FT Rate OReb% TO Rate
Team Shaq 101.2 133.4 66.5 6.2 18.9 8.9
Team Chuck 101.2 161.0 71.8 7.4 55.3 8.9

When Charles Barkley drafted Team Chuck, he drew criticism for passing on Irving with the second overall selection, conceding him and Damian Lillard to Shaquille O'Neal, the rival general manager. O'Neal envisioned his team having enough shooters to bomb Team Chuck into submission, but his squad went 9-of-32 on three-pointers, with Lillard going 2-of-10. In contrast, Team Chuck went 17-of-32 on triples, and five players made at least two shots from beyond the arc.

Barkley's squad dominated O'Neal's on the glass, owning a rebounding margin. By rebounding 55.3 percent of its own (rare) misses, Team Chuck outscored Team Shaq, 33-13, on second-chance points. Faried and Cavs forward Tristan Thompson hauled in 12 of Team Chuck's 21 overall offensive rebounds.
