Victor Oladipo and Michael Carter-Williams make rookie history as 76ers beat Magic

Michael Carter-Williams and Victor Oladipo - Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Each of the rookie guards recorded a triple-double as Philly edged Orlando in double-overtime.

Victor Oladipo and Michael Carter-Williams took the Wells Fargo Center court on Tuesday on opposing teams, but the pair combined to make history together as Carter-Williams' Philadelphia 76ers topped Oladipo's Orlando Magic, 126-125, in double-overtime (game recap).

Each of the guards recorded triple-doubles, marking the first time in NBA history that two rookies got triple-doubles in the same game, according to the Elias Sports Bureau via ESPN SportsCenter. Carter-Williams finished with 27 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Oladipo nearly matched him with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists of his own.

Oladipo is not the first Magic rookie to get a triple-double, however: Penny Hardaway accomplished that feat on April 15th, 1994 against the Boston Celtics, in which game he tallied 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 12 assists.
