Jameer Nelson injury: Magic point guard discusses sprained left foot

The veteran lead guard met with the media Friday to talk about the injury.

A sprained left foot will keep Jameer Nelson out of action indefinitely, but the veteran point guard was in good spirits Friday when he met with members of the media inside the Orlando Magic's locker room, where he discussed the injury and his response to it.

Nelson left the second quarter Wednesday's victory against the Philadelphia 76ers with the sprain, but he said before tipoff Friday that he might have sustained the initial injury the night before against the Atlanta Hawks.

"It was bothering me in the Atlanta game," Nelson said. "I didn't say anything. I just iced it and played through it."

"I'm walking on my own two [feet] and able to get around, do things. It's fortunate that it's not something serious." Jameer Nelson

An X-ray and MRI on the sprained foot revealed no structural damage, for which Nelson is grateful. He doesn't even need to wear a protective boot to get around; when he addressed the media, he sported a pair of deck shoes.

"I'm walking on my own two [feet] and able to get around, do things," Nelson said. "It's fortunate that it's not something serious." Nelson said he planned to go on the Magic's forthcoming six-game roadtrip.

With Nelson out, rookie guard Victor Oladipo figures to spend more time initiating Orlando's offense. Nelson is prepared to mentor him.

"I just gotta stay on him about certain things," Nelson said. "He has a ton of questions and he feels like I have all the answers. I give him as many answers as I can."

Oladipo will start his first game at point guard Friday against the San Antonio Spurs; he started Orlando's previous five games at shooting guard.
