NBA trade rumors: Celtics' interest in J.J. Redick increasing, according to report

J.J. Redick - USA TODAY Sports

Though improving their big-man rotation is a priority for the Celtics, Boston remains interested in adding the sharpshooting Orlando guard.

The Boston Celtics' interest in trading for Orlando Magic shooting guard J.J. Redick continues to grow, reports Marc Stein of ESPN.com. Boston has "ramped up" its interest in Redick, and had done so even before shooting just 7-of-32 on shots outside 15 feet in Thursday's loss to the New York Knicks.

"Size [is] obviously Celts' priority if they do [a] deal before [the] Feb. 21 deadline," Stein says, "but word is they hope to work way into Redick mix if they can."

Redick is owed $6.19 million in 2012/13, the last of a three-year contract. He will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st and is not eligible to sign an extension. His cap-friendly contract and his productivity--he's averaging 14.9 points and 4.4 assists per game, both figures the best of his career, now in its seventh season--have made him Orlando's best and most sought-after trade asset.

It's unclear what, if anything, Boston could offer Orlando for Redick. Given the Celtics' lack of attractive trade assets, they would likely need to recruit a third team to help facilitate a Redick trade, a team which had at least one piece Orlando would accept in return for arguably its best and most consistent player.

On Saturday, David Baumann of Bright House Sports Network became the first to report Boston's interest in Redick.
