Glen Davis injury: Magic forward could return "in the near future," according to report

Glen Davis - USA TODAY Sports

The veteran big man is making strides in his recovery and could return to the Magic lineup within a few games.

The Orlando Magic have found themselves short on talent, depth, and luck in recent weeks, having endured a 10-game losing streak, but they could receive an infusion of talent and depth shortly as starting power forward Glen Davis could return from the sprained left shoulder which has sidelined him for Orlando's last 11 games.

Orlando lost its first 10 games without Davis, its second-leading scorer and rebounder, before breaking the streak with an improbable 104-101 win against the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday.

"He's progressing, getting shots up," Magic coach Jacque Vaughn said of Davis, reports Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel. "Nothing negative, and conditioning-wise, he's improving." Robbins says Davis could return "in the near future."

In addition, Magic play-by-play man David Steele said several times during Saturday's Fox Sports Florida telecast that Davis is close to a return.

Davis initially sprained his shoulder in the final minute of Orlando's win against the Washington Wizards on December 19th. Davis was elevating for a dunk when Wizards big man Emeka Okafor fouled him hard across the arm. Davis left the game immediately and did not shoot the ensuing free throws.

In Davis' absence, the Magic have called upon Andrew Nicholson to start games at power forward and upon Josh McRoberts to finish them. Their defense, among the finest in the league with Davis in the lineup, has regressed to below-average levels.
