I think just about all Orlando Magic fans are deathly afraid of the prospect of the Magic sending Howard to Brooklyn for the deal that is reportedly on the table. After all what the Nets are offering is indeed garbage if the Magic were to keep pieces like Brook Lopez and Humphries. But what if the Lakers were to decide to drop out and keep Bynum and the Magic had no other option but to send Howard to Brooklyn to get some value? If Orlando were able to dump Howard and maybe Turkoglu and get back Lopez, Brooks, Humphries and the 3 1st round picks in a trade with the Nets... The best thing they could do would be to use the pieces to try and acquire other expiring contracts, draft picks, and cap relief. What if the Magic kept Marshon Brooks (going into 2nd year affordable contract) and the 3 draft picks. Then flip Brook Lopez and maybe Jason Richardson to a team like Portland for example (If Indiana matches and keeps Hibbert. Batum also signed a contract with Minnesota) for another 1st round pick. Maybe they can find another team willing to take Kris Humphries for possibly a 2nd round pick and a couple expiring contracts? Obviously this would lead to 1 horrific year that could very well yield the #1 pick in the draft in 2013 as well to add to the pot.
What if the Magic could come out of all of this with 5 draft picks from other teams ( 4 future 1st rounders) Marshon Brooks and some expiring contracts. They would also dump Howard's money and Turkoglu and Richardson's contract. Probably have the best chance at the 2013 #1 draft pick. How would you feel about that? If they cant land Bynum or Horford or a player like this in a deal and have to deal with the Nets to get some value. I say go for nothing but draft picks, expiring contracts, and cap relief. The Magic would have a terrible 2013 but could have the #1 pick in the draft and 4 future first rounders in the bank and cap money with Howard, Richardson and Turkoglu off the books. Reddick would also come off the books at the end of this year as well and they could make the decision to let him go for extra cap flexibility. I personally would much rather do something like this than have Lopez here on a new deal with Humphries and Richardson etc. A team like this would win just enough games to keep us away from the top of the draft. If the best player we can get for Howard is Brook Lopez I say we blow the whole damn thing up!!
