Is Rob the second coming of SVG? He is a "stats" guy.
Hennigan announced a couple of staff additions, including the uber analytical Matt Lloyd. According to OPP: "Lloyd is renowned in NBA circles for developing and maintaining a statistical database of professional and college players and figures to fit in well with the analytics-oriented approach Hennigan is bringing to Orlando's basketball operations department."
So what you say? Stats guys, those who take an analytics-oriented approach value efficient shots and plays, especially:
3-point shots
Free throw
Lay ups.
They disdain:
Offensive rebounds (defense is more important)
Steals.
Does this sound familiar? Which current player fit these goals? Certainly not Dwight Howard - he cannot hit his foul shots and is getting worse rather than better. Who fits? 3-point shots - JJ, RA, Duhon (the best for the Magic last year), Jameer and j-Rich. Free Throws - JJ, RA, Duhon, Jameer, and Q.
You thought the SVG offense was gone? Don't be surprised to learn the "New" system is much the same, except with better free throw shooting in the middle.
