Martins name has been bandied about a lot recently, so let's discuss him in depth. I didn't see his resume on the Magic home page, so if you have it feel free to post it here. In the meantime this Sentinel article gives some background.
Apparently he started in the PR department, similar to Otis is GS. He is given credit for helping push through the new arena (no small feat). IMO he should also be given credit for dividing the positions of Pres and GM. Another plus is that he is looking outside the organization to bring in "championship experience" to management.
Having been in management for more decades than I care to admit, I see some perceived negatives. He seemed indecisive in stripping Otis of his authority and not firing him immediately. Per media reports he took the path of least resistance in firing Stan by phone, then IMO attempted to blame Stan for not upholding Magic standards and absolve Howard of any involvement in the decision. This was strictly bush league. Jeff Van Gundy was right in that Martins knows little about basketball. My guess is the only pick and roll he could identify has to do with cleaning his nose.
My biggest problem with Martins thus far is that he was on his knees offereing anybody and anything to keep Dwight. Being on your knees is not a good place to bargain, and you usually end up losing. IMO Dwight still wants out, so all Martins did was delay the inevitable.
I can only hope he gets a good Pres and GM so we won't continue to look like the Keystone Cops.
