At this point Orlando just has to explore all options.
Apparently Boston is looking to trade Rondo who has become disgruntled with the franchise. So I'm thinking Orlando could try the following trade:
Jameer and Anderson for Rondo and Wilcox.
I know the price is high, Anderson is our second best player and big part of our future. But I think we can make some short term sacrifices for a great potential future. My idea is:
1. Do you think that this trade might be enough to convince Howard to not opt out next season, given the following plan? Obviously we would need his approval and involvement in the decision making (which the Magic are trying to do and he really wants). If he stays one more season, we could go for J Smith who will be a free agent in 2013/2014. J Smith is not comfortable in Atlanta (this isn't anything new). Him, Rondo and Dwight are good friends (since they were kids). Last season there were some rumors that he wanted out and his preferred destinations were Orlando (b/ of Dwight) and Boston (b/ of Rondo), so having both of them in Orlando will make us front runners for J Smith's services, either in free agency (Orlando will have enough cap space by then) or maybe faster through a trade with the Hawks (if they know he'll leave in FA, they might try to get something in return and Smith would have leverage just as Dwight has to choose which teams he'll sign an extension with). Orlando could then have their own big three, maybe big four if we get Monta who will also be a FA then (since him, D12 and J Smith will be FA in 2013, they could pull the same type of deal as Lebron, Wade and Bosh). In the meanwhile, JJ, J Rich and Turk will still help to stretch the floor (given Rondo can't shoot, we'll need it more than ever). Maybe we could try trading Turk for SJax (though I don't think the Bucks will go for it).
2. Do you think Boston would go for this trade? They are looking for a big, and outside of Paul Gasol, I don't know who else they might get for Rondo. Anderson at this point just doesn't require justifications. He has potential to be an All-star in the near future, him and Nelson will help the C's revive their stagnant offense. Nelson, Allen, Pierce, Anderson and Garnett is a better team than what they have right now.
Maybe this is just wishful thinking but I'd really like to know your opinions?
