I've been a magic fan from day 1, so that's before Dwight and Shaq. I remember the Catledge days and the dreadful years when we were either mediocre or awful.
That's all to say that we had a team before Dwight and we'll have one after he leaves. I was a Dwight fan as well as a Magic fan until recently. Dwight's constant flirting with other teams and media from other cities has turned me OFF. He's set on leaving, so let's thank him for his service and get the best deal and move on.I've seen some good trade ideas, and some dumb ones posted. I believe a team will only deal if it makes them better, so proposals that are just based on salary matches or the wish for us to get great players in exchange for our scrubs won't work. I believe the trades I will outline below are not only possible, but plausible based on recent reports that have had all of these parties talking.
Howard+Hedo+parts for Chandler+Amar'e+parts
First, ship Howard to the NY Knicks in exchange for Amar'e and Chandler. Howard will resign because he gets the big media market he wants (good luck when he chokes at the free throw line in a crucial game and the media crucify him). Plus he gets to team up with Melo and Lin.
The Knicks do it because their offense is dysfunctional with Melo and Amar'e in at the same time, and neither will wan to come off the bench.
Orlando does it because they get reasonable value for Howard and dump Hedo's contract.
We could keep Amar'e, but I believe it would make more sense to ship Amar'e to GS for Curry+Biedrens.
GS does it because they desperately need a marquee big man and they get to dump Biedrens contract. We do it because we finally get a good point guard and we could use Biedrens for limited minutes off the bench and clear cap space when his contract expires.
I hope that Otis (if he's not fired by draft time) will then dump Jameer for a 1st round draft pick, or a 2nd round pick, or a toothpick, or baseball card, or dead frog. Just ship him out. He and Hedo have their pictures posted in the encyclopedia next to the phrase "maddeningly inconsistent.".
