Jameer Nelson - Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

The veteran point guard will not play Saturday due to a sore left hip, Orlando announced before tipoff. He is day-to-day.

Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson will miss Saturday's game against the Toronto Raptors due to a sore left hip, the team announced before tipoff. They will list him as day-to-day going forward.

Nelson's late scratch is surprising, given that he logged 34 minutes in Friday's loss to the Washington Wizards and showed no signs of being injured. Making matters worse is that E'Twaun Moore, Nelson's backup, sprained his left elbow in that loss and will not play Saturday either.

The injuries to Nelson and Moore leave Orlando with only Ish Smith available at point guard, and he'll make his fifth career start on Saturday. Smith, 24, is averaging 0.9 points and 1.4 assists for Orlando, shooting 18.8 percent from the field.

Fortunately for Orlando, Hedo Türkoğlu will be available to help with the ballhandling chores. The versatile forward is active and ready to play against Toronto after having missed the Magic's last 28 games due to a broken left hand.
