Glen Davis injury: Magic forward sprained left shoulder, will be treated "non-operatively," team says

Glen Davis - USA TODAY Sports

The Magic's medical staff diagnosed the veteran power forward with a sprained left shoulder. He will not require surgery, but will instead rehabilitate by strengthening the muscles around his shoulder and by resting.

The Orlando Magic have released a statement updating the status of power forward Glen Davis, who left Wednesday's win against the Washington Wizards with less than a minute remaining after taking a hard foul from Emeka Okafor.

"After further evaluation by our medical staff, Glen Davis has been diagnosed with a left shoulder sprain," said general manager Rob Hennigan in the statement. "The MRI showed no significant structural damage.

"He will be treated non-operatively," the statement continues. "Treatment will include rest and subsequent strengthening of the muscles around his shoulder. His return will depend on progress made during his rehabilitation."

Davis is tied with Arron Afflalo for the team lead in scoring, at 16 per contest. He also averages 7.9 rebounds per game, the second-best figure on the team.

Following Wednesday's win, Magic coach Jacque Vaughn declined to answer questions about who might assume Davis' starting role. "I'm not going to quite write that obituary just yet," Vaughn said.

Davis joins Hedo Türkoğlu and Al Harrington among Magic forwards beset by injury.

Orlando's season resumes Friday at Air Canada Centre against the Toronto Raptors, who have beaten the Magic once already in 2012/13.
