Magic vs. Nets four-factors analysis

Maurice Harkless, Reggie Evans, and Glen Davis - US PRESSWIRE

Brooklyn got hot from three-point range, sending Orlando to its third consecutive loss.

The Orlando Magic dropped their third consecutive game Friday night, 98-86, to the Brooklyn Nets, who now stand just a half-game back of the Miami Heat for the East's top record. Andray Blatche filled in admirably for starting center Brook Lopez, who missed the game due to a foot injury, by scoring 14 points and snaring nine rebounds, while Gerald Wallace drained four three-pointers in the third quarter to help the Nets take command.

Despite missing starting point guard Jameer Nelson, the Magic corrected their turnover problem in Friday's loss, with just nine in a low-possession game, but merely taking better care of the ball wasn't enough to surmount the challenge Brooklyn presented. Orlando made just one three-pointer on the night, while the Nets sank 11. Few teams can win when facing a 30-point deficit on three-pointers, particularly teams of Orlando's caliber.

Wallace's five three-pointers matched a career-best for the 11-year veteran. And while the Nets didn't dominate on the offensive boards to the extent that they're accustomed, they controlled the rebounding battle overall, 41-36.
