The Orlando Magic cruised past the Phoenix Suns on Sunday, 115-94, to boost their record to 2-0. Reserve two-guard J.J. Redick scored 24 points and dished six assists, while Glen Davis and Arron Afflalo scored 22 points apiece for a sizzling Orlando team.
How, exactly, did Orlando top Phoenix? A look at the four factors can help answer that question:
Team | Pace | Efficiency | eFG% | FT Rate | OReb% | TO Rate |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Suns | 95.0 | 99.0 | 45.6% | 12.1 | 34.0 | 16.8 |
Magic | 95.0 | 121.1 | 53.8% | 17.4 | 31.7 | 11.6 |
Green denotes a stat better than the team's 2011/12 average; red denotes a stat worse than the team's 2011/12 average. |
The Magic shot the lights out--48.9 percent from the field overall, but 81.8 percent on 11 three-point attempts--while limiting the Suns to 42.9 percent from the floor. In addition, the Magic made the most of Phoenix's many miscues: the Suns committed 16 turnovers, which Orlando converted into 20 points.
Orlando must improve on the defensive glass, however: the Suns grabbed 17 offensive rebounds in 50 chances, with Marcin Gortat snaring seven offensive boards in his 35 minutes of burn. The teams scored 18 second-chance points apiece, but the Magic cannot continue to allow their opponents more than one shot-attempt per possession.
