Gustavo Ayón will miss at least two weeks of action for the Orlando Magic, coach Jacque Vaughn said Wednesday afternoon, as the center has sustained a sprained left thumb, possibly during Orlando's 104-100 victory against the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday. The injury absolutely rules him out of Wednesday's exhibition game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
"The good thing is that it happened now and early and he can continue his conditioning and get right back into the fold after those two weeks," Vaughn said, according to John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com.
In five preseason appearances, Ayón has averaged 8.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game, shooting 57.6 percent from the field.
"If Ayon misses two weeks from Sunday origin of the injury," Denton writes, "he would not be available for the regular-season opener against the Denver Nuggets and the Nov. 4 home game against the Phoenix Suns."
