Orlando Magic Vs. Washington Wizards Game Preview

Washington Wizards at Orlando Magic, Jan 4, 2012 7:00 PM EST

Wednesday night, Rashard Lewis returns to Amway Center to play against the Orlando Magic for the first time since they traded him to the Washington Wizards in December 2010. Whether his return will be a triumphant one has yet to be seen, obviously, but the Wizards remain the league's only winless team.

Washington's offense is the culprit, as it's yet to score more than 92 points in any game this season. Shooting 38.9 percent from the field will do that to a team, especially when hardly any of those shots are three-pointers.

The Wizards should provide a tune-up of sorts for Orlando, which hosts the Chicago Bulls on Friday. Chicago will be the best team the Magic have faced since opening night against the Oklahoma City Thunder, so they need to improve following a lackluster effort in their last two games.

The Wizards are bad. Really bad.

If they score more than 92 in the game it will be like a moral loss. If the Magic lose it will be like a double loss. Triple maybe.

This is fun

How about this:

What if the Wizards scored more than 92, BUT the Magic scored 133? Where would that be in the pantheon of losing? 1.5?

If the Magic must trade Dwight, Hedo better stay. He needs to retire a Magic.

by funny80sguy on Jan 4, 2012 5:24 PM EST up reply actions

It would be an awesomely bad game

Washington is dead last in offensive efficiency, 20th out of 30 in defensive efficiency, and about average for pace. Averaging just over 85 PPG on 39.8% shooting, 27.9% from outside the arc, and getting outrebounded by an average of 10 per game. This team is bad. Scoring 133 would be awesome, but giving up 92 would suck.

Bob.

by The Dark on Jan 4, 2012 6:04 PM EST up reply actions

In that instance because of the offensive brilliance...

it would be .66 victory and .33 loss.

We should probably start keeping track of these partial numbers so we know our true record at the end of the season.

This game worries me because there is no upside for the Magic

If they win, they are supposed to. If they don’t, well, obviously that is really bad.

The Wizards have to win one eventually. The Magic just have to make sure that it’s not today.

I'm torn. Is JJ Redick the White Mamba or the White Ray Allen?

The worst team

The only part of me that wants the Wizards to win is because I want the Nets to be the worst team of the league. But of course, I don’t want them to win tonight.

I hope Magic fans cheer for Lewis.

Great guy and a great teammate during his tenure with the Magic.

Other than that, I hope the Magic stomp the Wizards out early so some younger guys can get some minutes and starters can get just that much more rest before the Chicago game on Friday.

I would definitely like to see Harper and Liggins play some garbage minutes

But every time I think that is going to happen, the other team spoils my expectations and make it a close game. I’m especially worried about a team that is 0-5 so far; they’re due for a victory at some point.

If the Magic must trade Dwight, Hedo better stay. He needs to retire a Magic.

The Magic are solid 12 point favorites

…with an over/under of 190.

The Magic have won their last six games against the Wizards, and haven’t lost to them since February 5th, 2010 when the Wizards won in Orlando 92-91. The Magic jumped out to a 32-13 lead after one quarter in that game, only to see the Wizards outscore them 39-17 in the third quarter on their way to the upset win.

Love the Wizards' new uniforms

That’s one thing they’ve done right, getting rid of the previous awful design and going back to their glory days of the ’70s and ’80s with similar style uniforms like they wore then when they were known as the Bullets.

Just killing time with numbers...

I keep hearing about how awesome Bynum is because he just had his first 20/20 game in over 6 years of his career.

Puh-lease. Let’s have a little perspective here.

At his current rate, Bynum would catch up to Dwight Howard’s 35 20/20 games in just 204 years – or 2216. Of course, if he doesn’t get injured again and can play a full 82 games a season, it will only take 139 years. So, there is that.

Then I have to listen to all of this pointless blather instead of the Magic’s crew. Also, they always skip all the stuff (like Rashard’s intro or even the opening night intros) so these knuckleheads can get more airtime. So frustrating.

Yeah, you can actually tell Rubio is going to be something when he becomes more seasoned

That is why I would actually root for a Dwight trade to Minnesota

I'm probably going to buy League Pass Broadband where you choose 5 teams you can follow

My teams will be:
1. Magic (of course)
2. Wolves
3. Clippers (maybe)
4. not sure
5. not sure

Saw some ESPN guy recommend the 5 teams

It was Bulls, Heat, Clippers, Lakers and OKC.

I’m thinking, um, those teams are on TV constantly. How about some teams you CAN’T see.

(But the Blazers are tearing it up right now).

Blazers are blacked out here in Seattle. That so pisses me off because I would love to follow them. Also, living in Seattle, I’m contractually obligated to hate all things OKC (not all that hard actually).

Besides, if Dwight has to be traded, the Magic aren't going to be anything great for several years anyway

We might as well keep Hedo since his contract is up in two years.

well with Rashard out, Arenas out, Hedo's contract is the worst

But compared to Shard’s old one, it’s not as bad. IMO he is the 2nd most important player in the Magic roster, so he’s worth the second highest money.
