Orlando Magic vs. Boston Celtics Game Preview

Boston Celtics at Orlando Magic, Jan 26, 2012 8:00 PM EST

Photo

The last time the Orlando Magic played the Boston Celtics, the Celtics were without their starting backcourt of Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen. They didn't have Mickael Pietrus, Chris Wilcox, or Keyon Dooling available off the bench. Orlando was at full strength, coming off two days of rest. Everyone was healthy and available.

So Boston held Orlando to franchise-worsts in scoring (56) and field goals (16), among other ignominous records, because of course it did. Former Magic forward Brandon Bass, who Orlando traded to the Celtics for Glen Davis and Von Wafer, lit up Orlando for 19 points off the bench. Davis shot 2-of-9 for six points, and though he did haul in a game-high 11 boards, the loss left him wondering if maybe he was better off staying with the Celtics.

So the Magic can redeem themselves Thursday night as they host the Celtics at Amway Center for the only time during the 2011/12 season. Allen and Rondo are out once again.

Despite Monday night's Magic disaster...

…the Magic are 10 point favorites, with an over/under of 174 (http://sportsbook.com).

The Magic have split their last six games in Orlando against Boston.

Despite the Magic’s much better offensive rating compared to the Celtics, Boston shoots better than the Magic from the floor (45% to 44.2%), from three point range (41.1% to 39.6%), and from the free throw line (75.6% to 65.7%). The Magic average 94.8 PPG compared to 89.4 PPG for Boston.

Defensively, the Celtics have the better defensive rating, and hold their opponents to 42.8% FG shooting, compared to 43.6% for the Magic defense against the opposition. Boston opponents average 88.3 PPG, while Magic opponents average 90.8 PPG.

Hopefully, the Magic can build on their impressive win over Indiana and make up for Monday’s embarrassment against Boston.

Chicago Blackhawks... 2010 Stanley Cup Champions, and contenders for 2012
Chicago Bears... as many playoff wins this year as Green Bay... zero

I can't detect mental toughness

BUT we need more dribble penetration which is something he’s capable of. But Clark looked okay out there i don’t know why he didn’t play much in the 2nd half. And I understand preserving your players for the 8 min stretch in the 4th but when your 2nd unit is getting destroyed, you put your ballers in the game. And because Stan waited too long to do so, Celtic’s confidence was at a trillion.

this game was definetly lost on the mental side of things

you guys had the lead, and it led to i dont know, overconfidence maybe? For whatever reason you let up off the gas, and then the 3rd quarter it seemed to get personal (in regards to the jameer nelson vs bradley matchup) and the execution started to go downhill. At least thats what it looked like to me.

Still, my favorite play in the game was when jameer did a spin move and made bradley crash into a big baby screen, then did a no look hesitation dribble on one of the celtics bigs ending with a nice finger roll at the rack…that was nice…

sadly, that might have helped push the little one on one battle even further

i dont think this is howards fault though

its not like he tells them to stop moving the ball when hes on the court. Sometimes it looks like the magic take howards exceptional abilities for granted and hoist up bad shots or random last second passes in hopes that he will bail them out.

Agree to an extent

but when its passed into him just to watch him either fumble it away (and snarl at the player who passed it to him) or sit there trying to dribble it for 5 seconds before making a move, only to get fouled and miss the FT’s, I think it hurts the flow more then it helps.

it was clear that Boston was getting their asses kicked at basketball so they switched it up to

football and the refs were like, Okay whatever. This whole game was bullshit. I don’t fucking understand why it is okay to maul Howard all fucking game long or grab and hold and shove and physically assault anyone in an Orlando uniform. This is all so Boston can stay relevant because they get such high tv ratings. FUCK the refs and FUCK the NBA.
