Magic Trade For.... Expiring Contracts!

As a true Magic fan, I'm starting to wonder if Otis is ever going to pull the trigger on a deal to get Dwight some help. Like most of you, I want Dwight here forever. I think to achieve this we need to be on the hunt for expiring contract players.

One prime example would be Steve Nash. I think we definitely have the assets to get him, and his contract is up after this season.I've heard rumors about this deal but that's all. Even if he retired next year, it would free up the space to bring DWill here. I'm not saying he would come, but at least it would give us a shot!

In the long run, there are plenty of star caliber players on the market right now with expiring deals. Paul P, Kevin G, Ray A, we should be going after any number of them but instead we are doing nothing.

If we do trade Dwight, these deals should still be made to free up cap space for next year! Let them walk in FA if they don't want to resign for cheap. Do this, and we have real money to play with. We also have whatever pieces we get back from the Dwight deal. It's a win win situation.

Overall, the main goal is keeping Dwight. Time is running out and we are stuck in neutral. It's time to shift gears. Make a move Otis.

Or maybe...

Lee, flynn and williams for jrich and qrich. We get 3 young players with ending contracts but can keep them if they pan out. Waive hughes and pick up kmart if unrestricted or a serviceable backup center. Am not sure if houston says yes or if this is just a lateral move. Also thinking just a short term quick fix.

Pg nelson flynn duhon
Sg lee reddick wafer liggins
Sf turk williams harper liggins
Pf anderson davis clark
C howard davis orton

There is absolutely no reason to make a move right now because March 1st a slew of new players enter the trade picture.

Plus in March several players (Wilson Chandler, JR Smith, Kenyon Martin, Aaron Brooks etc) that are currently stuck in China will become eligible to join NBA rosters – thus creating many new scenarios.

yup...

we also can’t trade jrich til after march since he signed a new contract. so i do agree that there may be other possibilities but i guess just looking at other possibilities that are a tad bit more tangible. also since i’m not too sure about the status of the names mentioned (RFA, UFA, etc.) i went with guys that seem possible to attain and fill some needs without losing much. in the scenario above (no matter how possible or impossible) i feel that they may be the type of players we may consider since jrich isnt panning out too well we need a 2 guard that can drive and take it inside. williams was a pretty good player in NJ, we all know and like lee(i think?) plus we do need a quicker guard (not sure about flynn’s defense and just about as tall as meer) i like hughes’ height but age and conditioning might be a concern.

again, just looking at other possibilities that may not necessarily rock the boat too much since the core is pretty much intact. lee may still know the system but the other 2 will have to catch on on the fly.

but… i am also not typically the type who’d say tinker with the roster midway. i wasnt for the trades of december last year. :)

btw, no offense taken and not being defensive here. just explaining my thoughts a bit better in this bit..

thanks for the comment and reply!

Rondo and Ray

Celts fan here. I’d give up Rondo, Ray Allen, and a 1st rounder.

As a Magic fan you get an expiring contract, an All-Star, and a handful of picks (how many would you need?

As a Celts fan, I would’t be surprised if Ray just resigns after finishing the season in Orlando anyway. Same with KG.

How close am I?
