Orlando Magic vs. Charlotte Bobcats Game Preview

Charlotte Bobcats at Orlando Magic, Jan 17, 2012 7:00 PM EST

The Orlando Magic look to continue their recent dominance over a Southeast Division rival Tuesday night as they host the Charlotte Bobcats. Counting the playoffs, the Magic have won each of the last nine meetings against Charlotte and 16 of the last 17.

The Bobcats rank among the league's worst overall teams, at 27th in offense and 29th in defense. Without scoring wings Corey Maggette and Reggie Williams available, they've struggled to put points on the board. Waterbug point guard D.J. Augustin leads the team in scoring at 15.4 per game and is coming off a 24-point, 8-assist outing in a loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night.

Earlier Monday, Orlando rallied to defeat the New York Knicks behind 30 points from Ryan Anderson and 21 from spot-starter J.J. Redick, filling in for the injured Jason Richardson.

Tuesday's game, set to tip at 7 Eastern on Fox Sports Florida--not Sun Sports--is the second of Orlando's only back-to-back-to-back set of the lockout-shortened season.

I really hope the Magic come out swinging.

A bad team sandwhiched between two better ones in a back-to-back-to-back…exactly the kind of game where a team can lose their focus and let one slip away. The Magic have been frustratingly prone to doing it more than other teams, as well.

Hopefully they show up and dominate early, giving the starters a rest in garbage time after they take a huge lead. Howard especially, I hope will show up with a fire in his eyes, since last night he was so frustrated/unproductive. He’s got Diaw in the middle — so it has the makings for a huge bounceback game.

We’ll just have to see if the Magic show up to play. If so, they keep the momentum going by knocking CHA out early and getting some rest while the likes of Clark and Wafer finish the game. If not, they ruin their momentum and go into the last night of a BtBtB against the Spurs on their heels.

Step up, guys!

With San Antonio playing Miami tonight...

it will more than likely be a dog fight and hopefully leave them exhausted.

We have a great opportunity to put this one away early, rest up, and face a weak SA squad tomorrow.

We’ve got a great chance at pulling off this BtBtB.

The first home game after a long road trip can often be a tough game

Still, the Magic are solid 12 point favorites over the Bobcats, with an over/under of 193 1/2 (http://sportsbook.com).

Magic are now first in the league with their offensive rating, and are shooting 46.6% from the field and 41.8% on three pointers. Charlotte is shooting just 42.8% from the field and 31.9% from long range.

Defensively, the Magic are allowing their opponents to shoot 44.3% from the field and 33.8% on threes, while Charlotte is allowing their opponents to shoot 46.2% from the field and 36% on threes.

The Bobcats also allow 102.1 PPG, so the Magic should have a good night offensively.

I was momentarily thrilled to read that the Magic were 1st in Offensive Efficiency

I was thinking that with Orlando’s normally top notch defense, they will be killing the league . . . except the Magic are tied for 21st with Phoenix in Defensive Efficiency. The season is still way young, but that is pretty troubling.

If the Magic must trade Dwight, Hedo better stay. He needs to retire a Magic.

Yeah... it's unusual not to see the Magic in the top five in Defensive Efficiency

SAS: 63

Wow. Dropping 63 on the Heat in a half — granted the last 3 was a half-court buzzer beater. But wow.

Hopefully the Heat can put up a bit more fight in the second…and it turns into a real tough battle down the stretch. If tonight is any indication, the Magic will need a worn out Spurs to have a chance.
