Heat 105, Magic 93: Orlando's season ends in defeat

Tobias Harris and Dwyane Wade - Mike Ehrmann

The Magic ended their season on a down note, losing to Miami and locking up the league's worst record in the process.

The Orlando Magic ended their season Wednesday in a 105-93 loss to the Miami Heat, who were resting LeBron James and Mario Chalmers. Miami wings Dwyane Wade and Mike Miller tallied 21 points apiece to lead all scorers, while Magic center Nik Vučević bolstered his Most Improved Player credentials by leading the Magic with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Tobias Harris had 19 points and eight boards, while Beno Udrih had 13 points and 14 assists in his eighth straight start for the injured Jameer Nelson.

Orlando fell behind by nine points in the first quarter and never really recovered. A hook shot by Juwan Howard, who finished his sophomore season at Michigan two months before Magic forward Maurice Harkless was born, broke a 7-all tie at the 7:47 mark of the first quarter, and Orlando never tied or regained the lead.

Hot three-point shooting by Miami kept the visitors at bay, particularly in the third quarter: the Heat shot 4-of-9 from beyond the arc in the period, while Orlando missed all five of its triple-tries. As a result, the Magic lost ground in the quarter despite scoring 27 points.

Orlando won the rebounding battle by a 41-34 margin, but couldn't string together enough stops to keep the game competitive. Miami shot 53.8 percent from the floor and committed only 12 turnovers.

Andrew Nicholson was one of Orlando's bright spots. The rookie power forward scored 12 points in 10 minutes for his first double-digit scoring game since April 1st.
